11am - 12pm: Bugs and Beasts - Short film programme for ages 4+
Cunning birds, wriggly insects, and singing monsters feature in this selection of animated shorts from around the world. The Fox and the Chickadee sees a hungry fox eyeing up a vulnerable little bird for his tea, but the clever bird has other ideas. Corrida tells the funny story of a bull who does everything he possibly can to avoid being caught by a toreador, and the winner of the 2013 Colour Box award is Hedgehogs in the City, a lovely fable by Latvian animator Evalds Lacis.
12.15pm - 1.15pm: Shorts - Good for a Laugh for ages 4+
The silliness continues with the repeat of this family-friendly programme of shorts that’ll bring a smile to your face. Featuring the beautifully bizarre animated short Hop Frog by Russian animator Leonid Shmelkov, with remarkable rhythm, plasticity, and slightly mad and wonderful hopping creatures. In the Korean short Johnny Express we follow a courier who is delivering the tiniest of parcels to the tiniest of planets. Unfortunately he can’t see either the parcel or the planet. And in Marcel the Shell with Shoes on, we find out the difficulties faced when you’re a shell living in a human’s house. Plenty of fun to be had with films from all over the globe.
1.30pm - 2.30pm: Puppet Pup - Make and Take Workshop
Join us for an afternoon of pup-tastic fun! If you’re in the mood for getting creative, come along to this puppet workshop and prepare for Isle of Dogs by making your own four-legged friend to bring along to the screening!
2.45pm - 4.30pm: Isle of Dogs screening
Can you imagine being separated from your best friend? Well this is exactly what happens in Isle of Dogs, Wes Anderson’s second stop motion animation. Following an executive order, all dogs of Megasaki City are exiled to Trash Island. Things take a turn when young Atari travels to the island to find his dog Spots amid the piles of garbage. With the help of new friends he searches the island in an adventure that will decide the fate of the entire Prefecture.
