Bournville String Orchestra

Source http://www.barber.org.uk/

This orchestra is made up of children from the age of 11 to young adults. The orchestra meets for a few evening rehearsals prior to the performance but many of the pupils are taught by a local teacher, Lucy Akehurst

The concert provides an opportunity for the children and young people to be conducted by a professional conductor - this time we are very excited to welcome back Alpesh Chauhan who started his conducting career aged 15 years, when he first conducted this orchestra!

Daniel Pett, a 21 year old music student will compose a new piece especially for this orchestra - as he has done for the last few years. The orchestra will be led by a professional musician, Nicholas Halstead - one of Lucy’s sons!

Any proceeds from the concert will go to ‘C.H.A.R.M.S’ @ Birmingham Womens and Childrens Charity to support children with Hand and Upper Limb Differences who are looked after at Birmingham Childrens Hospital Hand and Upper Limb Service - in particular we provide a yearly Hand Camp where we take about 15 children away for a couple of days to do outdoor activities and improve their independence and self esteem.
