CBSO: Alison Balsom Plays Musgrave
Love, war and a destiny stronger than either: Walton’s Troilus and Cressida is British music at its most sensuous – and sensational. Mirga loves it, and as part of the CBSO’s centenary celebrations she’s giving it a long-overdue revival. First, though, Alison Balsom plays a stunning new concerto by living legend Thea Musgrave, and we champion a home-grown masterpiece from 1946 by former CBSO oboist Ruth Gipps.
