In her mansion on Sunset Boulevard, faded silent-movie star, Norma Desmond lives in a fantasy world filled with nostalgia from her shimmering early career. Into this reclusive world stumbles Joe Gillies, an impoverished screen writer in need of a change of fortune, and an escape from the debt collectors. Persuaded to work on a script that Norma believes will put her back in front of the cameras, Joe is quickly seduced by a life of Hollywood luxury, but beneath the glitz and glamour the cracks begin to show.
