Orchestra in the Shape of a Pear, in their inaugural concert, are excited to present a programme of 20th-century classics paired with new responses written by composers from the conservatoire.

Edgard Varèse | Octandre Responses by Maarten Benschop and Rob Roberts Morton Feldman | Marginal Intersection Response by Victoria Benito

By way of an introduction to this music, we will be joined in the concert by Victoria Benito, Maarten Benschop and Rob Roberts – composers of the newly comissioned responses to these incredible works – to discuss what these pieces meant at the time and today, and how they drew inspiration from them. The concert is designed to be accessible to all with open ears, whether they have heard of these fascinating 20th-century composers or not, and regardless of how much new composition, if any, they have been exposed to.

Tickets are free, with a pay-what-you-want collection after the concert.
