Discovering Birmingham: Walking Fun in Brum!
Discovering Birmingham; Walking Fun in Brum!
Understand how Birmingham developed with a particular emphasis on the Birmungham 'toy' making industry and how it turned out some mega-industries that dominated the world. We look at how Birmingham is moving into the future.
A great way to relax on a Sunday afternoon in the city with some humour and memorable experiences thrown in as well: • Earlier times – medieval origins • From Georgian entrepreneurs to Victorian idealists. We take the 'secret canal' to the Jewellery Quarter • Understanding the Jewellery Quarter • Canal city • An artistic side • Developing for the future. This walk starts and ends at the Library of Birmingham in Centenary Square. Content is loosely based on the tourist guide Discovering Birmingham. A copy of the guide book is included in the ticket price (book normally £5 in Library foyer shop). Tours may use an audio system and if so you can bring your own earphones or purchase a new pair for £1 at the start which you keep at the end.
This 1 3/4 hour walking tour gives a great introduction to the city and is of interest equally to local people and visitors.
