To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jamaican Independence and the Jamaican athlete participation in the Olympic games after their training camp in Birmingham, Birmingham City Council will be hosting a free open-air Jamaica Festival outside the landmark Council House around Victoria Square.

Jamaica in the Square takes place from 2- 6 August 2012 and will celebrate everything to do with Jamaican culture. From traditional Jamaican food and Caribbean punches to Jamaican music, dance, entertainment and fashion. There will be cookery demonstrations with chefs and you can browse through the craft market stalls selling crafts made by local Jamaicans.

Enjoy dancehall, reggae soca and ska music and watch dancers express their true Jamaican spirit and culture through their dance. Enjoy Jamaican jerk chicken, curried goat with rice and peas and absorb the warm, friendly and relaxed Jamaican hospitality.

Cottage Productions Music Theatre Summer School for student actor/singers presents Stephen Sondheim's musical 'Into the Woods' which takes the stories of the Brothers Grimm and gives them a dark and humorous twist. The popular tales of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Bean Stalk are interwoven with that of the Baker and his Wife and their quest to have a child. However this re-telling goes beyond 'happily ever after' as the familiar characters find themselves in unfamiliar circumstances and hopes and dreams are questioned and revisited.

The Festival offers a programme of workshops, exhibitions, installations, screenings, games, an open mic and performances from some of the best performance poets in the UK. The National Children’s Choir of Great Britain was founded 13 years ago by Lissa Gray, who is its Musical Director. The choir has more than 200 members from all parts of the United Kingdom, and meets twice a year for residential courses.

Four Junior choirs and one Senior choir will be represented in the concert. Their programmes will contain a wide range of music, from madrigals and early Italian motets to music by Holst, Larsen, Chilcott and jazz arrangements by Gywn Arch.

His first comedy performance was probably in a school talent show which basically involved wearing a beret and saying 'ooh betty' quite a lot. Mandy is the former Time Out Comedy Award winner and has headlined all over the world including Dubai, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, South Africa and Rickmansworth and was the first female comedian to compere that bastion of old-school stand-up The Comedy Store.
