The captivating imagery and refined movement draw you within centimetres of our performer who moves between robotic isolation and liquid fluidity. Existing somewhere between the digital and organic worlds our character embarks on a captivating journey to the infinite.

The Just Price Of Flowers , 15 Jun 2012 - 30 Jun 2012

15 Jun 2012 - 30 Jun 2012 - Theatre at AE Harris Factory Building

A play about the 2008 financial collapse, set in 17th Century Netherlands, inspired by Rembrandt, featuring origami and paying homage to the great theatre maker Bertolt Brecht.

Tulips were imported into Europe in the early 17th Century at a time when merchants were generating wealth by through trade. Collecting exotic items was a fashion. A passion developed for tulips, their price rose and as the price rose the possibility of making profit through speculative buying of Tulips arose. For a brief time certain tulip bulbs were sold for prices equivalent to those of a house, or three years of a craftsman’s wage. In 1637 this financial bubble burst.

Using Tulipmania as its inspiration, The Just Price of Flowers plots the growing complexity and spiraling profits of contemporary high finance to the point of the most recent financial meltdown in 2008.

This is an austerity production, made fast and cheap. Its aesthetic is drawn from Rembrandt and theatrical form inspired by Bertolt Brecht.

Birmingham-based Stan’s Cafe has been devising thoughtful and engaging theatre since 1991.Their consistently inventive and playful approach has taken them to the forefront of European experimental theatre, performing worldwide to popular and critical acclaim.

Birmingham Royal Ballet - Far from the Madding Crowd, 20 Jun 2012 - 23 Jun 2012

20 Jun 2012 - 23 Jun 2012 - Dance at Birmingham Hippodrome

Passions run out of control in this balletic adaption of Thomas Hardy’s famous novel by David Bintley, Company Director and award-winning creator of the Company’s huge Christmas hit, Cinderella. An enrapturing story of lust, deceit and murder, with one woman at the centre of it all.

Bathsheba Everdene sends ripples through the lives of three men as they compete for her love. The dependable farm-hand Gabriel Oak, the dignified but obsessive William Boldwood and the dashing but deceitful Sergeant Francis Troy, all vie for the heart of the woman they love… Bathsheba’s complex relationships with all three leads one to death, one to madness and the other to true love.

Adorned in stunningly detailed period costumes and sets by designer Hayden Griffin, and with an evocative score by Paul Reade, composer of the Company’s Hobson’s Choice, Far from the Madding Crowd makes a very welcome return to the stage. If you are a fan of the worlds of Gone with the Wind, Cranford or The Forsyte Saga, this is a ballet for you.

23 Jun 2012 - Workshop at Six Eight Kafé

New for Saturday mornings, workshops that give you practical tips on how to make a success of your arts, crafts, handmade or vintage or small business.

The work shops are deliberately small, so that you can ask questions and come away with a real action plan. In some cases, you will act on new ideas whilst the workshop is in session!

This week, we’ll look choosing a niche and ways to market that to sell.

What is a niche?
Why does a niche product or service sell ?
How do you choose what you sell?
Who will buy from you?
What do your competitors do?
How do you make yourself unique?
How does a niche product or service gain publicity?
Please bring a notepad & pen (or laptop) to make notes and list your action plan from the session.

Cost is £15 per person, including a delicious drink and mid-morning snack.

One 2 Ones also available – please email me privately for details.

The Miller's Tale With The Songs Of Bob Dylan , 23 Jun 2012

23 Jun 2012 - Theatre at The Old Joint Stock

A musical comedy of Chaucer's '14th Century Carry-on', told by England's oldest song and dance man, the Miller.

Yes, the very Miller that rode out of London on the pilgrimage to Canterbury...

These days he recites his poem, dances around his broomstick, sings the songs of Bob Dylan and wears an interesting collection of hats. It's definitely six centuries of separation. While keeping close to the original poetry, the Miller is almost fluent in modern English and understandably bonkers!

The focus has been on the collaborative aspect: How do you create something with people from other disciplines who use different artistic languages? It has been extremely important to work without hierarchies. Music isn’t just used as an accompaniment, but it should be dealt with as independently as a text, a movement or an image.

His experience was an attempt to 'live deep and suck out all the marrow of life', emphasizing the importance of solitude, contemplation, and closeness to nature. Hugely influential, Walden made Thoreau the 'grandfather of both modern environmentalism and civil disobedience'.

musical composition that is full
of evocative sounds and features
nine vibrant movements. The
piece, which was inspired by
19th century naturalist Henry
David Thoreau’s retreat to simple
living in a cabin by Walden Pond
in Massachusetts, features a
number of specially-built
instruments such as the ‘steel
cello’ and ‘bow chimes’ which
resonate their sound through
large sheets of steel.

The Miller's Tale: The Songs Of Bob Dylan , 23 Jun 2012

Yes, the very Miller that rode out of London on the pilgrimage to Canterbury...

These days he recites his poem, dances around his broomstick, sings the songs of Bob Dylan and wears an interesting collection of hats. It's definitely six centuries of separation. While keeping close to the original poetry, the Miller is almost fluent in modern English and understandably bonkers!

Comedy Course Stand-Up Show, 23 Jun 2012

23 Jun 2012 - Comedy at Solihull Arts Complex

Be the first to see a handful of trainee comedians at their first-ever live gig!

For 5 weeks half a dozen would-be comedians will be in the hands of comedian and local poet Laureate Theo Theobald learning how to be funny, write and rehearse their own material with the support of a group of like minded 'first timers' and get some individual coaching time.

Hopefully they will establish a comic persona, develop timing & technique and try out new material. The finale to the course is this show in the Studio in front of a live audience offering them the chance to experience what stand up comedy is all about.

His experience was an attempt to 'live deep and suck out all the marrow of life', emphasizing the importance of solitude, contemplation, and closeness to nature. Hugely influential, Walden made Thoreau the 'grandfather of both modern environmentalism and civil disobedience'.

As a huge techno export from Birmingham to the entire globe, especially Japan, Eastern Europe, Germany, USA and Spain, Dean tore up the dancefloor as the USER guise, and as himself writing for his CORROSION records.

USER always trod a line of more 'tracky' tracks, the sort of records that were brought to life by the skills on early sets using the MPC2000 and by any DJ worth his salt in the area of techno turntablism. A pure scratchers dream, these tracks were a pleasure to chop up and manipulate for the crowd.

Nothing past 1990, which appeals to the original old skool crowd but also the new faces that are hearing these sounds for the 1st time. Not just a club night but a warm social gathering of friends, brought together by the scene. Ultra friendly and very welcoming for new faces. Always remembering that we class this event as a "wanker free zone" A place to dress up if you want.

No one will stare....only admire!! We have a regular following of friends that attend from across the UK and even as far as Europe.
